The Sioux County Warriors medaled in half of their entries at the State Speech Meet in
Kearney Friday and set a school record for team points in the sweepstakes race.
Jack Hunter followed up his district championship with a state championship
performance, winning the gold medal in poetry. Victoria Turbiville, who competed in both
serious prose and program of oral interpretation, was crowned runner-up in program of
oral interpretation. Sierra Eastman, who also competed in two events, clinched the
Warriors’ third medal with a fifth-place finish in persuasive speaking. She also
performed in extemporaneous speaking.
Zoey Sanderson was the Warriors’ final state competitor, participating in program of oral
interpretation as a freshman.
In the sweepstakes, the Warriors accumulated 50 points, setting a school record for
sweepstakes points, according to Coach Dashiell Rohan.
The Sioux County Warriors placed three on the medal stand at State Speech in Kearney
