Hay Springs and Morrill bested the Sioux County Warriors last week as their leading scorers each dropped 21 points.

Sioux County hosted Morrill Saturday in a contest that started slow for both teams before the Lions stepped up the pace on the way to a 58-33 win.

The opening quarter saw little offense on either side with an 8-3 advantage by Morrill. The Lions used full-court pressure in the second quarter to secure a 23-7 run and a 31-11 margin at half-time. Logan Monroe had eight of the Warriors 10 first-half points, going six of seven from the free throw line and adding a single bucket. Jack Hunter added the other two Warrior points, also from the charity stripe.

After the break, Sioux County kept pace with Morrill as each team added 16 points to the board. Three pointers were the Warrior specialty in the quarter, with Hunter, Preston Kreman and Taylen Lambert each successful from behind the arc. Kreman drained two, with Hunter and Lambert each hitting one. Josh Perez also got on the board with two buckets.

Morrill put together an 11-7 run in the fourth to put the game away. Sioux County’s points in the final eight minutes continued the game’s trend, coming from three pointers and the charity stripe. Lambert and Kreman each hit another trey, and Hunter added a final free throw. Altogether, the Warriors made six three-pointers, all in the second half, and went nine of 15 from the free throw line. Sioux County had just three two-point buckets in the contest.

Kreman led the Warriors with nine points, followed by Monroe with eight. Hunter and Lambert each added six, and Perez contributed four points. Ashwin Pittman led Morrill with 21 points.

Sioux County also faced Hay Springs last week, dropping the contest to the Hawks on Thursday 76-34. The Hawks put up more than 20 points in three quarters and allowed the Warriors to cross the double-digit mark in scoring in only one period. Hay Springs led 21-9 after the first quarter and were up 43-20 at the break. Hay Springs continued to roll in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 33-14. Javon Dahlgren led the Hawks with 21 points.

Monroe led the Warriors with 13 points, followed by Lambert with seven and Hunter with five. Gilberto Hernandez and Perez each contributed four points, and Kaydy Potter got on the board with a single free throw.
